Speaker Profile

Alhami Mohd Abdan is presently the Head of International Finance & Capital Market at OCBC Al-Amin Bank.

He joined the investment banking division of OCBC Bank (Malaysia) in April 2004 and was responsible for the development of the bank’s Islamic capital market activities. Alhami was seconded to OCBC Al-Amin Bank in 2009 to spearhead the development of the regional Islamic finance business.

Prior to OCBC, he was with several other merchant/investment banks from 1994 onwards, in the areas of corporate banking, structured finance and capital market, where he was responsible for origination, structuring and execution functions for a variety of corporate funding and private debt and Islamic securities issuances.

As Business development director for Dow Jones Indexes, Ariff Sultan develops the index businesses for conventional and Islamic indices for Dow Jones and also business relationships with clients and prospects.

He has eight years of international experience in direct and channel sales of financial and banking solutions with several international software vendors, and has worked with banks in Asia Pacific, the Middle East and Australia. Ariff has a wealth of experience and knowledge in banking solutions from vendors, and is well-versed with the underlying technology and software architecture and design.

Ariff completed his Master in Business (IT) at RMIT University, Australia. He also has a degree in Islamic Banking and Finance from the International Islamic University Malaysia. He is a speaker at Islamic banking seminars and has presented papers on corporate reporting and accounting in Islamic finance as well as Islamic credit risk management.

As Representative Director for Moody’s Investors Service Singapore (Moody’s), Christina Maynes heads Moody’s Singapore office and leads a multinational team of business development professionals responsible for corporate, financial services and structured finance ratings in Asia ex-Japan.

Since joining Moody’s in 2003, Maynes has been instrumental in expanding the firm’s rating coverage in the region. Most prominently, she played strategic roles in establishing its leading rating coverage for REITs in Singapore and its first public ratings for Vietnam and Cambodia.

She has spent much of her career in the Asia Pacific region, notably in Singapore and Indonesia. Before joining Moody’s she was a Vice President at DBS Bank. In this position, she structured and executed transactions related to the bank's strategies in bancassurance and information technology.

Her professional expertise further extends to project finance. Previously, she held senior positions at Banque Paribas in Singapore as well as Citicorp Securities in New York, from where she covered Latin America.

Maynes holds a Master of Public Policy from the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor) and a Bachelor of Arts from Cornell University (Cum Laude).

Kevin Chan joined BNP Paribas Investment Partners Malaysia in June 2008 as a Investment Specialist with the Structured, Indexed and Asset Allocation team focusing primarily on its Southeast Asian businesses.

Prior to that, Chan was the Head of Structured Investments at TA Securities Malaysia. He also previously worked with Merrill Lynch & Co in New York for more than seven years as a Treasury Analyst. His international experience includes stints at the World Bank, Asian Development Bank and other governmental and private agencies in Asia, Europe and Africa.

Chan has an MBA from Manchester Business School, and brings with him a total of 14 years of international experience in the financial sector.

Having obtained his Law Degree with Honors at the Antwerp University in Belgium, Paul Wouters began his practice as a lawyer focusing on financial regulations and corporate law.

For the past 10 years, Wouters has been in Istanbul, Turkey where he is presently counsel to the Bener Law Office. His interest in Islamic banking spurred him to obtain the Islamic Finance Qualification (IFQ) at the Securities and Investment Institute (SII) in London.

His articles are frequently published in newspapers and professional magazines. Wouters consults, lectures and writes on ethical and legal issues related to the Islamic finance sector.

Dr Mulya E Siregar is head of the Bureau of Islamic Banking Research, Development and Regulation at Bank Indonesia (BI). He started his career with Wijawiyata Manajemen at the LPPM Jakarta for approximately one year before being promoted to Assistant Manager in Nucleus Estate Smallholder (NES) III Rimbo Bujang Project, Jambi in 1981.

He officially started working for BI at the General Credit Directorate in 1984. From 1989 to 1992, he pursued his career at BI’s branch office (KBI) Manado as Head of the Economy & Statistics Unit. In late 2006, he was appointed to lead the Bureau of Islamic Banking Research, Development, and Regulation of BI.

Mulya is a member of the advisory council of the Indonesian Waqf Board and was also a member of the Postgraduate Board of Studies at the International Center for Education in Islamic Finance from 2006 to 2009. He is also actively involved in the Islamic Financial Services Board.

He has an MSc in Agricultural Economics from Ohio State University, US. He also has an MSc and PhD in Consumer Economics.

Hanim Hamzah is the Resident Partner in Jakarta of Zaid Ibrahim & Co, the largest law firm in Malaysia, well respected for its strengths in infrastructure projects and Islamic financing.

In Indonesia, Zaid Ibrahim & Co is associated with Roosdiono and Partners, which focuses on corporate M&A, infrastructure projects and Islamic financing. Roosdiono and Partners is also a member of the Allen and Gledhill/Zaid Ibrahim alliance, with offices in Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand and Dubai.

Hanim was previously attached to a leading law firm in Tokyo, and advised on various cross-border corporate and financial deals and structures, including award-winning Initial Public Offerings (IPOs) and equity deals.

Siwiwardhani is head of Debt Capital Markets (DCM) department in CIMB Securities Indonesia, leading and running the DCM franchise for CIMB Group in Indonesia, both for conventional and Shariah structures.

She has more than 12 years of experience in corporate finance, equity and DCM, M&A and financial advisory. She holds a Bachelor of Economics & Accountancy from University of Indonesia and an MSc in Financial Management from Glasgow Caledonian University, Scotland UK.

Siwiwardhani holds an underwriting representative license from Bapepam. She joined CIMB in 2004, and prior to that was at PNM Asset Management, Trimegah Securities and Sinar Mas Insurance.

She has completed a number of transactions, some of which are Astra Sedaya Finance IDR1.5 trillion (US$165 million) bonds, Salim Ivomas Pratama IDR730 billion (US$81 million) bonds and Sukuk Ijarah, Bank Tabungan Pensiunan Nasional IDR750 billion (US$83 million) bonds, and Apexindo Pratama Duta IDR600 billion (US$66 million) obligasi.

Pramudya A Oktavinanda is an associate in the capital market practice group of Hadiputranto, Hadinoto & Partners. He has extensive experience in various capital market works including initial public offerings (IPOs) of equity and debt securities, and mergers and acquisitions of public and private companies, focusing on the telecommunications, broadcasting, infrastructure, and energy business sectors.

He is also an experienced lawyer in restructuring and Islamic finance transactions. He represented the Joint Lead Managers in the first global offering of Indonesian Sovereign Sukuk and also represented a major conventional bank in the process of acquiring and converting a bank into an Islamic entity, including drafting the whole Islamic banking products of the new subsidiary.

Farouk A Alwyni obtained his MBA in Finance and International Banking from the Birmingham Business School, University of Birmingham, UK (2004) and an MA in Economics from the New York University, USA (1998).

He began his career in Islamic finance at the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) under the Young Professional Program.

Later Farouk was assigned as Trade Finance Officer in charge of areas of Bangladesh and Indonesia (2000-2003), as Senior Trade Finance Officer, in charge of Indonesia, Iran, Maldives, Kazakhstan and Tajikistan (2004-2006) and as Head of Market Research & Monitoring Section (2007).

In 2007 to 2009 he served as Director of Al Ijarah Indonesia Finance, founded jointly by Bank Muamalat Indonesia, Boubyan Bank of Kuwait and the International Leasing & Investment Company Kuwait.

In the span of his career, Farouk has been actively involved in training programs and seminars at home and abroad, either as a participant, moderator or speaker.

Syed Alwi has 10 years of professional experience in business development, corporate banking, relationship management and consultancy, having held senior managerial positions at prestigious institutions and banks across the Middle East and Asia Pacific.

Prior to joining IB Asia, he was Head of Islamic Banking at HL Bank, Singapore — a prominent banking group listed on the Malaysian stock exchange. He was also involved in the development of the Islamic banking industry during his tenor at the Accounting and Auditing Organization for Islamic Financial Institutions (AAOIFI).

Syed Alwi graduated at the top of his class with an MBA in Islamic Finance from the International Islamic University Malaysia. He is a frequent speaker in the Islamic finance conference circuit.

Liza Mohd Noor is the CEO of RAM Rating Services. She joined the organization as one of its pioneer analysts in 1991. She has extensive experience in the ratings of corporate bonds and Sukuk as well as bank ratings, and had served in several senior management positions before becoming RAM Ratings’ CEO.

During the 1997/98 regional economic crisis, Liza had been seconded to the Corporate Debt-Restructuring Committee (or CDRC) - a unit of Bank Negara Malaysia – where she had been principally involved in sector-wide restructuring schemes and the reorganization of government- and state-owned enterprises.

Earlier in her career, Liza had had stints with a merchant bank, where she had been mainly engaged in corporate-advisory work pertaining to Government privatization schemes, and an accounting firm, where she had been chiefly involved in corporate receivership and liquidation work.

Liza holds a Bachelor of Economics, majoring in Accounting, from the University of Adelaide, Australia. She also has a Postgraduate Diploma in Islamic Banking and Finance from International Islamic University Malaysia.

Jamil Hassan is the Principal Consultant, Islamic Banking at Oracle Financial Services Software. He keeps abreast of the major developments and trends in Islamic finance and ensures that the company’s products and services are continuously realigned to address the needs of the global Islamic finance market.

He travels widely and has regular interactions with customers and prospects in Africa, Europe and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). Jamil has been invited to be a speaker at various international seminars, especially in the area of technology management for Islamic financial institutions.

His exposure to Islamic finance began at a commercial bank where Islamic banking products and services were offered via an Islamic banking window. During this time, he managed the complete migration of the bank to a state-of-the-art new core banking system over a period of 18 months.

Jamil holds a bachelors degree in Science and a masters degree in Computer Science, from Northern Illinois University, USA. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Islamic Finance at the International Center for Education in Islamic Finance (INCEIF), Malaysia.

Norfadelizan Abdul Rahman is the Vice President and Head of Bursa Suq Al-Sila’. He has 19 years of investment banking, treasury and corporate experience. Prior to his current position, he was Head of Product Development for Islamic Capital Markets at Bursa Malaysia where he was responsible for the development of Shariah compliant products and infrastructure for the exchange.

Before joining Bursa Malaysia, Norfadelizan was Head of Derivatives for RHB Investment Bank, Senior Manager of Treasury for Tenaga Nasional, Head of Treasury Sales at AmInvestment Bank, Senior Manager for Derivatives at AmInvestment Bank and Floor/Trading Manager of AM Futures.

Norfadelizan was also involved in structuring Shariah compliant wealth management (structured) products for funds and Takaful-linked instruments. He has advised several listed companies in the areas of treasury, market risk management and structured products.

He received his MBA from Charles Sturt University of Australia and obtained his first degree in Business Administration (Hons) from the International Islamic University of Malaysia.

Sohail Jaffer is a Partner and Head of International Business Development for “white label” Bancassurance and investment services within the FWU Group, an international financial services group headquartered in Munich. He has successfully originated, negotiated and won several major bank distribution deals in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region, Pakistan and Malaysia.

He has written extensively on alternative investments and has edited several Euromoney publications on hedge funds, multi-manager strategies, four Islamic books on retail banking, asset management, Takaful, wealth management and a recent CPI publication on investing in the GCC markets.

Jaffer is a member of the Asset Management Advisory Committee, the Middle East Working Group and the Hedge Fund Committee of the Association of the Luxembourg Funds Industry. He is also a member of the Strategic Focus Group of the Malaysia International Islamic Financial Centre. Jaffer is also a regional advisory council member of the Alternative Investment Management Association.

He is a UK-qualified certified accountant (FCCA).

Saefuddin is the head of the Indonesian Islamic Banking Division, CIMB group Indonesia since the 1st of October 2009. Previously, he was the business director at Bank Muamalat. He has been in the banking industry since 1996, and some of the positions he has held include Division Head and Corporate Secretary at Bank Duta, Team Leader for Mergers & Acquisitions for a Bank Danamon project, and corporate secretary with Bank Shariah Mandiri and Bank Muamalat Indonesia. Saefuddin is also the Chairperson for Islamic Banking Development with the Economic Community of Shariah (MES), and vice-Chairman on the Central Standing Committee of Banking/Finance with the Islamic Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KADIN).

Adrian is the director of Bank Muamalat Indonesia (BMI), responsible for the retail banking business of the bank. He joined BMI after spending five years with Standard Chartered Bank, Dubai where he was global head of the Islamic product structuring group. In his last role, he held global responsibility for origination, structuring and distribution of Islamically structured financings including debt capital market issues.

This included a stint in 2007-2009 as head of Shariah banking for Permatabank Indonesia , a subsidiary of Standard Chartered. He was involved in a number of landmark global transactions during his tenure with Standard Charterd Bank Dubai. Notably, he headed the team which structured and successfully placed the first Sukuk for the Government of Malaysia and Indonesia. Prior to that, Adrian worked with Citigroup Indonesia in various positions within the Corporate and Investment Bank for five years.

Adrian holds an MBA degree from the Rotterdam School of Management Erasmus Universiteit, Holland and Bachelor’s degree from the Faculty of Economics, University of Indonesia.

Roslinda Ahmad is the Head of Debt Capital Markets & Syndication at CIMB Islamic. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (Finance) from University of the Pacific, California, USA as well as an MBA from the University of Miami, Florida, USA.

She has about six years of experience in Islamic finance and 10 years of experience in equity markets. She has handled various Islamic financing deals worth more than RM50 billion (US$15 billion) over the last few years.

The recent significant deals she was involved in include — Petroliam Nasional’s (Petronas) US$1.5 billion trust certificates, City Developments’ SG$1 billion (US$715 million) multi currency Islamic trust certificate program and Pengurusan Aset Air’s RM20 billion (US$6.14 billion) Islamic commercial paper and Islamic medium term note program.

Tengku Ilyana Habsjah has been working in the banking industry since 1996. Her first job was at Indover Bank in Amsterdam, where she worked in the Syndication Department.

She returned to Indonesia in 1998 and joined ABN AMRO Bank NV. Her last held position there was as head of Call Centre in 2008.

Tengku Ilyana’s interest in Shariah banking peaked in 2004. This was also the time when conventional banks were allowed to have Shariah units. She subsequently enrolled in the Shariah training executive program in 2008.

She joined CIMB Niaga in October 2008. After a short stint in the Private Banking Unit, Tengku Ilyana was transferred to the Shariah Dual Banking Division which runs Shariah programs in Office Channeling, covering both the funding and financing of products.

Gahet Acobat is the Managing Director at AAA Investment, a local investment house in Jakarta, where he oversees proprietary investments in business ventures by the company. Prior to AAA, he was the Senior Vice-President at HSBC Amanah in Jakarta, where he was responsible for the origination, structuring, and execution of Islamic syndications and Sukuk. While at HSBC, he was involved in the largest international Islamic syndication transactions in Indonesia to date and played a key role the debut and multi-award winning retail and global Sukuk issuances by the Indonesian government.

Earlier in his career, Gahet was a credit analyst in a Dutch bank in Amsterdam, a credit analyst in a Japanese bank in Jakarta, and Director of a boutique corporate finance firm based in Singapore.

Gahet graduated in economics from the faculty of economics, University of Indonesia in 1997 and obtained his Masters in Finance degree from the London Business School in 2001.

Zain Azra’i Abd Samad is the resident partner of ARSA-LAWYERS at its Kuala Lumpur head office. He currently heads the firm’s Financial Services Department and his specialty is in capital market and corporate finance.

He has represented the firm in the establishment and listing of the first Islamic healthcare Real Estate Investment Trust in the world which was recognized by Islamic Finance news as one of 2006’s Deals of the Year.

Zain was appointed special independent counsel to CIMB Trustee as the trustee for the Amanah Raya REIT. He was also the lead partner for the successful conversion of AXIS REIT, a conventional REIT to an Islamic/ Shariah compliant REIT, a first in the REIT market.

He graduated from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia in 1995 with a Bachelor of Law (Hons), and was called to the Malaysian Bar in 1996.

Fatati Sriwahyuni is Deputy Director of Islamic Financing Directorate, Directorate General of Government Securities, Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Indonesia.

She received her postgraduate degree in Applied Finance from the University of Queensland, Australia.

She was previously the Subdivision Head of Accounting for Directorate of Government Securities, Ministry of Finance that managed sovereign debt of the Republic of Indonesia.

Fatati is currently responsible for preparing the sovereign Sukuk issuance both in domestic market and international market.

She is also in charge in analyzing government securities market as well as government Sukuk market in order to set up the benchmark price prior to the regular Sukuk issuance.

Agus Syabarrudin is the Vice President of Danamon Syariah. He spent 19 years working in the financial sector. Of that, 13 years was spent in jobs relating to the capital and money markets. Since 2004, Agus has been working in Islamic banking.

He was appointed by the Islamic banking Treasury community and other Islamic financial institutions in Indonesia as chairman of the Islamic Global Market Indonesia (IIGMA) association.

Michael Steven is the President Director of Kresna. He holds an MBA in Corporate Finance & Banking from Golden Gate University in San Francisco and a degree in Computer Science & Mathematics from the University of Texas, Austin.

From 1988 to 1992, he worked in a boutique investment firm in San Francisco, catering to high net worth individuals.

Steven holds a Registered Financial Consultant license from the International Association of Registered Financial Consultants, and a Certified Wealth Manager’s license from the Certified Wealth Management Association. BAPEPAM-LK licensed him as an Investment Manager Representative and Underwriter Representative as well. He joined Kresna in September 1999.

Fadlul Imansyah is the Vice President, Investment for CIMB-Principal Asset Management. Prior to joining the firm, he was Deputy Head of Investment at PNM Investment Management.

He has more than 10 years of industry experience, especially in asset management, having held various positions ranging from research analyst to investment manager.

Fadlul obtained his Investment Management license and Broker Dealer license from BAPEPAM (Indonesia Capital Market Supervisory Board) in 2001.

He graduated from the University of Indonesia majoring in Finance. Fadlul also earned his master’s degree from the same university.

A man of many talents, he lectures at the University of Indonesia’s Economic faculty and actively writes for major publications.

Currently, he is enrolled in the Certified Islamic Finance Professional program at the International Centre for Education in Islamic Finance in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Rosmah Ismail is the Executive Advisor, Islamic Banking for Al Khalij Commercial Bank QSC. She brings with her 20 years of experience in building businesses in the financial institutions sector. She joined al khaliji in June 2008 to set up the bank’s Islamic branch, which lead to the successful launch of al khaliji al islami in April 2009.

Her forte in building businesses comes from an all round experience in business development, product marketing & sales, cross border and risk management, relationship management, portfolio management, contract negotiation, systems strategy, research, training as well as Islamic finance.

She previously worked at ABN-AMRO and Citigroup covering financial institutions worldwide, multinationals, local corporations, the public sector and government entities.

Rosmah graduated top of her class in LLM Banking Law & Islamic Finance from the International Islamic University of Malaysia. She is also an LSE graduate in International Relations from the UK. The list of her credentials includes being a Certified Practitioner and Trainer of the Hermann Brain Dominance Instrument and the Whole Brain Technology.
